SYSTEM: RESOLVED – Unplanned Internet Connection Outage

January 12, 2012

Mt. San Jacinto College’s connection to the internet that our web, e-mail and Blackboard district services depend on experienced a momentary loss of service today, January 12, 2012 at 07:52 AM. Our internet service provider (ISP), CENIC, identified the issue to be with their main hub in LAX.  We’ll keep monitoring this issue and make notifications as more information is known.

CENIC Notification:

“Subject: [CENIC #273110] SoCal DC Backbone OUTAGE Initial

 Summary of ONGOING outage:

 START   0750 [PST], THU 01/12
END     Ongoing  

SCOPE   LAX-Core2 line card failure.

IMPACT: Reduction of CalREN DC Backbone capacity.

COMMENTS

A line card in our LAX-Core2 router has failed.  We are currently working to move the two DC backbone links to spare ports on another line card.  A ticket will be opened with the hardware vendor shortly to get replacement hardware.”

UPDATE: CENIC has closed the repair ticket with the following notice.

The two DC backbone links have been successfully moved and all services are back up.”
